EarthWhorls – Inspired by Nature – Passionate About Fashion
Here’s a simple thought: “Natural gemstones are found in nature.” I guess we all knew that but, I particularly like to remind myself of that because, what I do by creating natural stone jewelry, is offer people the opportunity to intimately connect with the physical world.
By “nature” I love exploring the outdoors. I love traversing landscapes from sea to mountain, from desert to forest and everything in between. And, wherever I go, I look for stones… I collect stones… I have jars and boxes and baskets of stones in just about every room in my house. I can pretty much tell you where I found each stone and when I look at it, or touch it, or rub it between my palms, I can recall almost exactly where I was, what the weather was like and how beautiful the scene was, where nature yielded her treasure to me. Natural stone jewelry is what EarthWhorls is all about!
Now, I do use other elements like sterling silver, Bali silver, Hill Tribe silver, pearls, crystals, African clay beads and handmade glass (made from natural elements) abalone, bamboo coral and, the occasional seed pod. But, what I like creating with the most, are natural stones.
I am currently working with a variety of new stones, many of which I brought back from my trip to Ireland. There’s mookaite, sunstone, striped/purple agate, druzy, marbled agate and many others. They are all sitting out on my work bench waiting to tell me what they want to become. Last night, the sunstone and druzy seemed to want to “play together” and so a beautiful necklace, bracelet and pair of earrings was born. I can’t wait to share them with you.
